The vision of Nahum
Nahum 1:1 The burden of
Nineveh[1]. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
1
"NINEVEH": 5210. Niyneveh, nee-nev-ay; of for. or.;
Nineveh, the capital of Assyria:--Nineveh.
Zep 2:13 And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and
destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation,
and dry like a wilderness.
Who gets
the wrath and vengeance of God
Nahum 1:2 God is jealous,
and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious;
the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth
wrath for his enemies.
It's good to note just who gets the
wrath and vengeance of God. His enemies.
Exo 20:5 Thou shalt not bow
down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God
am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon
the children unto the third and fourth generation of them
that hate me;
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of
God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and
unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in
unrighteousness;
Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth
goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations:
and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the
winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
Rev 19:16 And he hath on his
vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD
OF LORDS.
Nahum 1:3 The LORD is
slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit
the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind
and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
Read Psalms 37:7-20 to see what
happens to the wicked.
Nahum 1:4 He rebuketh the sea,
and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers:
Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon
languisheth.
Mark 4:39 And he, (Jesus), arose, and rebuked
the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind
ceased, and there was a great calm.
God parting the Red Sea:
Exo 14:21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and
the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all
that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were
divided.
Exo 14:22 And the children of
Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground:
and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on
their left.
Exo 14:26 And the LORD said
unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters
may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon
their horsemen.
Exo 14:27 And Moses stretched
forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his
strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled
against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of
the sea.
Exo 14:28 And the waters
returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all
the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there
remained not so much as one of them.
Exo 14:29 But the children of
Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and
the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on
their left.
God parting the Jordan river:
Josh 3:15 And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan,
and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the
brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all
the time of harvest,)
Josh 3:16 That the waters
which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very
far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that
came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea,
failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right
against Jericho.
Josh 3:17 And the priests that
bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry
ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed
over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean
over Jordan.
Josh 4:18 And it came to pass,
when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD
were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the
priests' feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters
of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his
banks, as they did before.
Nahum 1:5 The mountains quake at
him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence,
yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
Nahum 1:6 Who can stand before
his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his
anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are
thrown down by him.
Rev 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who
shall be able to stand?
God's wrath is only for His
enemies. Not for the true and faithful.
Nahum 1:7 The LORD is good,
a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust
in him.
Nahum 1:8 But with an overrunning
flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness
shall pursue his enemies.
Nahum 1:9 What do ye imagine
against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction[1]
shall not rise up the second time.
1
"AFFLICTION": 6869. tsarah, tsaw-raw'; fem. of H6862;
tightness (i.e. fig. trouble); trans. a female rival:--adversary,
adversity, affliction, anguish, distress, tribulation, trouble.
God talking to Satan:
Ezek 28:9 Wilt thou yet say before him that slayeth thee, I am
God? but thou shalt be a man, and no God, in the hand of him
that slayeth thee.
Ezek 28:18 Thou hast defiled
thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the
iniquity of thy traffic; therefore will I bring forth a fire
from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will
bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that
behold thee.
Ezek 28:19 All they that know
thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be
a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.
Nahum 1:10 For while they be
folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken
as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.
A wicked counselor
Nahum 1:11 There is one
come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked
counsellor.
We have a Wonderful Counsellor.
Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is
born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon
his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful,
Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The
Prince of Peace.
Nahum 1:12 Thus saith the LORD;
Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they
be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted
thee, I will afflict thee no more.
Nahum 1:13 For now will I break
his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.
Nahum 1:14 And the LORD hath given
a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be
sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image
and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.
Keep thy
solemn feasts and perform thy vows
Nahum 1:15 Behold upon the
mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that
publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy
vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is
utterly cut off.
The return of Jesus:
Zec 14:3 Then shall the LORD
go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in
the day of battle.
Zec 14:4 And his feet shall
stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before
Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in
the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there
shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall
remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
Keep your
ammunition, watch, and fortify
Nahum 2:1 He that dasheth in
pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the
way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power
mightily.
Munition? Where does one find
munitions?
Jer 50:25 The LORD hath opened
his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his
indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts
in the land of the Chaldeans.
Nahum 2:2 For the LORD hath turned
away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for
the emptiers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches.
Hosea 10:1 Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth
fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he
hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land
they have made goodly images.
Nahum 2:3 The shield of his mighty
men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots
shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation,
and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken.
Vehicles that
travel like lightning
Nahum 2:4 The chariots shall rage
in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad
ways: they shall seem like torches[1], they shall run like
the lightnings.
1
"TORCHES": 3940. lappiyd, lap-peed'; or lappid,
lap-peed'; from an unused root prob. mean. to shine; a flambeau,
lamp or flame:--(fire-) brand, (burning) lamp,
lightning, torch.
Run like the lightnings? What
kind of vehicles are we talking about?
Ezek 1:4 And I looked, and,
behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and
a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and
out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the
midst of the fire.
Ezek 1:13 As for the likeness
of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning
coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it
went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was
bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.
Ezek 1:14 And the living
creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of
lightning.
Ezek 1:15 Now as I beheld the
living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the
living creatures, with his four faces.
Ezek 1:16 The appearance of
the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a
beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and
their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a
wheel.
2 Ki 2:11 And it came to pass,
as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared
a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted
them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into
heaven.
Nahum 2:5 He shall recount his
worthies: they shall stumble in their walk; they shall make haste to
the wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared.
Nahum 2:6 The gates of the rivers
shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.
Nahum 2:7 And Huzzab shall be led
away captive, she shall be brought up, and her maids shall lead
her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts.
Nahum 2:8 But Nineveh is of
old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand,
shall they cry; but none shall look back.
Nahum 2:9 Take ye the spoil of
silver, take the spoil of gold: for there is none end of the
store and glory out of all the pleasant furniture.
Nahum 2:10 She is empty, and void,
and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and
much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather
blackness.
Nahum 2:11 Where is the
dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions,
where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the
lion's whelp, and none made them afraid?
Nahum 2:12 The lion did tear in
pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and
filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin.
Nahum 2:13 Behold, I am
against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots
in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will
cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers
shall no more be heard.
Nahum 3:1 Woe to the bloody city!
it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth
not;
Nahum 3:2 The noise of a whip, and
the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the prancing horses,
and of the jumping chariots.
Nahum 3:3 The horseman lifteth up
both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is
a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there
is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their
corpses:
Nahum 3:4 Because of the multitude
of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of
witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and
families through her witchcrafts.
Nahum 3:5 Behold, I am
against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy
skirts upon thy face, and I will show the nations thy nakedness,
and the kingdoms thy shame.
Here God's talking about his wife.
Ezek 16:37 Behold, therefore I
will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure,
and all them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast
hated; I will even gather them round about against thee, and
will discover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all
thy nakedness.
Nahum 3:6 And I will cast
abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as
a gazingstock.
Nahum 3:7 And it shall come to
pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee,
and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I
seek comforters for thee?
Nahum 3:8 Art thou better than
populous No[1], that was situate among the rivers, that had
the waters round about it, whose rampart was the sea, and
her wall was from the sea?
1
"NO": 4996. No', no; of Eg. origin; No (i.e. Thebes),
the capital of Upper Egypt:--No. Comp. H528.
Nahum 3:9 Ethiopia and Egypt
were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim
were thy helpers.
Nahum 3:10 Yet was she
carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were
dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots
for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.
Nahum 3:11 Thou also shalt be
drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of
the enemy.
Nahum 3:12 All thy strong holds
shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be
shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.
Nahum 3:13 Behold, thy people in
the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be
set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.
Nahum 3:14 Draw thee waters for
the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the
mortar, make strong the brickkiln.
Nahum 3:15 There shall the fire
devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like
the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make
thyself many as the locusts.
Joel 1:4 That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust
eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the
cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath
left hath the caterpillar eaten.
Nahum 3:16 Thou hast multiplied
thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth,
and fleeth away.
Nahum 3:17 Thy crowned are
as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which
camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth
they flee away, and their place is not known where they
are.
Nahum 3:18 Thy shepherds slumber,
O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: thy
people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth
them.
No healing of thy bruise
The clapping of hands
Nahum 3:19 There is no
healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear
the bruit[1] of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon
whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
1
"BRUIT": 8088. shema', shay'-mah; from H8085; something
heard, i.e. a sound, rumor, announcement; abstr.
audience:--bruit, fame, hear (-ing), loud, report,
speech, tidings.
No healing of thy bruise?
Rev 20:10 And the devil
that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and
brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall
be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
Rev 20:14 And death and hell
were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
...... It will be the first and last
for Satan.
Ezek 28:18 Thou hast defiled
thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the
iniquity of thy traffic; therefore will I bring forth a fire
from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will
bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them
that behold thee.
Ezek 28:19 All they that know
thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be
a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.
Thanks, for allowing me, to share this with you. Remember, to
always,
study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to
be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun
profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more
ungodliness.
